Pressed by broadcasters and houses looking to mandate that FM radio stations in the future of mobile phones, the Consumer Electronics Association asked us what they thought the proposal. Seventy per cent oppose its mandate, found CEA, according to a poll released Tuesday.
U.S. 1,257 adult EAA investigation also found that 75% of respondents agreed that consumer electronics designs should be made by manufacturers and not by government agencies .the ' national association of Broadcasters (NAB) has been lobbying Congress mandated again of mobile phones FM radio chips.
"With broadcasters asking Congress to force consumers to buy mobile phones with built-in FM radios we thought it was time to ask consumers what they want," said Gary Shapiro, EAA President-Director General, in a statement.
"Study", he continued, "" proves there is little demand from consumers for radio-capable cell phones... for these few consumers who want a radio in their phones mobiles, manufacturers offer several dozen these devices that are already on the market. ""
An even broader-80% - said that they do not support a mandate that would require government respondents percentage manufacturers install FM tuners in mobile phones.
In a battle of investigations, the NAB Show countered the CEA with a survey of its own outlets earlier this month, showing that the majority of u.s. cell phone users want the ability to listen to their favorite local radios via receivers of radio on their mobile phones.
2,587 Adult survey, conducted by Harris Interactive, revealed that 76 percent of respondents said they would consider paying a one-time fee of 30 cents for access to local radio stations on their cell phones.
"Unfortunately, most Americans access mobile phone users have been rejected over-the-air to their favorite stations free and local," NAB Executive Vice President of media relations Dennis Wharton said in a statement.
Wharton also suggested wireless and manufacturers can have an ulterior motive to oppose mandatory registration of cell phones - FM radios that mobile phone users would be spending time listening FM music for free should be kept away from services based on the fees charged by carriers.
As background, NAB who worked a compromise with the Recording Industry Association of America to put pressure on Congress to change laws that govern the radio and music industries in the way music is played on cell phones.
For the proposal of the NAB, fees for commercial stations to nonprofit and small would be $ 100 or 1% of turnover with more than 1.25 million dollars in revenue .Stations must pay 1% of their revenus.Stations listen music accessory such as news, talk and sports stations-oriented step had to pay whatever it is, and would neither religious service stations.
NAB also argued that FM radio on cell phones would have accents of public safety and provide important disasters requiring large populations to be alerted quickly.
